Mika Kamiyasu is a 23 year old filmmaker based in Malmö, Sweden. Her work often explores close relationships, longing, and people's attempts to understand themselves and one another. Mika is drawn to characters who don't say what they actually mean, and to letting silence say more than words, often through worlds that mirror what is happening beneath the surface.
After two years of studying filmmaking at Skurups Folkhögskola, Mika's student film Ropa så jag hör dig won Best Film (Tungvikt) at the Pixel Short Film Festival and is currently competing for Best Swedish Short Film (Tungvikt) at Novemberfestivalen. Since then, she has continued working on music videos, advertising and low-budget short films as a director, editor, set designer, sound technician and videographer — all while trying to figure out how to be an adult.
With a background in music, Mika brings her musical thinking into filmmaking. In the editing room, she thinks like a composer, with rhythm and timing as her most important tools.
