Black magic, bullet-bending bandits and stolen Japanese gold explode across post-war Thailand in 4 Tigers, an excessive spaghetti Western with no interest in behaving itself.
Director Kongkiat Komesiri turns outlaw folklore into full-throttle spectacle, mixing gun-fu, sorcery, romance, comedy and political rebellion with complete confidence. Every scene seems determined to top the last: fists hit like wrecking balls, amulets stop bullets, spirits enter the battlefield and the dead refuse to stay down.
At the centre are four larger-than-life bandits whose swagger is matched only by their mutual contempt. Their rivalry gives the film its comic spark, while the fight against military oppression supplies its rebellious heart. These are not polished heroes but chaotic folk legends: vain, dangerous, magnetic and impossible not to cheer for.
Sexy, irreverent and bursting with visual invention, 4 Tigers feels like a classic Western possessed by a mischievous spirit. It is loud, romantic, politically charged and wildly entertaining — a maximalist genre adventure made for the biggest screen and the most enthusiastic audience possible.
Kongkiat Komesiri (b. 1975) is a Thai screenwriter and director known for muscular, socially conscious genre filmmaking. He studied Mass Communication at Bangkok University and began his career as a screenwriter, contributing to films including Art of the Devil (2004).
His breakthrough as a director came with the crime thriller Slice (2009), which earned several Best Director awards in Thailand. He has since worked across action, horror, fantasy, historical drama and television, with credits including The Gangster (2012), the Khun Pan trilogy (2016–2023), Bangkok Breaking (2021), KinnPorsche: The Series (2022) and the anti-war zombie film Operation Undead (2024).
Komesiri’s work is characterised by bold visual storytelling, intense action and a distinctive blend of popular genre cinema, Thai folklore and political commentary. With 4 Tigers, he returns to the world of Khun Pan, transforming legendary outlaws into the larger-than-life heroes of a maximalist supernatural spaghetti Western.
