Lund Fantastic Film Festival is an independent international film festival based in Lund, Sweden, founded in 1995.
The festival is dedicated to fantastic cinema—horror, science fiction, fantasy and animation—approached not as escapism, but as a vital artistic language for understanding the contemporary world.
The festival curates films that move beyond conventional storytelling, using imagination to explore social structures, power, technology, the body and collective anxieties. Rather than focusing on genre as category, Lund Fantastic treats genre as a tool for analysis, allowing filmmakers to address themes often marginalised in realist cinema.
With a strong commitment to artistic integrity, diversity and global perspectives, the festival presents works from filmmakers across the world, placing equal value on feature films and short films as independent art forms. Programming is shaped through a curatorial process rather than market-driven selection.
Since its founding, Lund Fantastic Film Festival has screened more than 1,000 films from over 50 countries and has welcomed filmmakers, artists and thinkers from across the international film community. The festival has hosted distinguished guests including Terry Gilliam, Shinya Tsukamoto, Neil Gaiman, Béla Tarr, Peter Greenaway, George A. Romero, Roy Andersson and Per Åhlin.
Today, the festival continues to function as a meeting point for audiences, filmmakers and industry professionals, combining public screenings with conversations, Q&As and industry activities—creating a shared space for reflection, discussion and exchange.
