Lund Fantastic Presents Japanese Retrospective in Collaboration with TOEI Company

Lund Fantastic Film Festival will present a Japanese retrospective during its 32nd edition, in collaboration with TOEI Company – one of Japan’s most influential film studios.

The retrospective highlights two films from different eras of Japanese genre cinema: Junya Satō’s high-speed thriller classic The Bullet Train (1975), newly restored in 4K, and Toshimichi Ōkawa’s landmark V-Cinema cult film Crime Hunter: Bullets of Rage (1989).

From political tension and disaster thrills to the raw energy of Japan’s direct-to-video era, the programme celebrates the range, innovation and lasting influence of Japanese genre filmmaking.

Alongside the retrospective, contemporary Japanese genre cinema will also have a place in this year’s festival programme.

The 32nd edition of Lund Fantastic Film Festival takes place 28 October–4 November 2026 in Lund, Sweden.
