Our Closing Film is BREAK FREE, Yu Nakamoto’s joyful Japanese mix of action, comedy, music and dance.

Kunio is an old-school yakuza enforcer in a world that is quickly changing around him. When an improvised dance unexpectedly goes viral, he finds himself becoming an unlikely social media star — and discovering that he might have a talent, and a passion, for something very different from the life he knows.

What follows is a collision of yakuza traditions, dance, friendship and finding a new direction when you least expect it.

Funny, energetic and full of heart, BREAK FREE feels like exactly the right film to send this year’s festival off with.
