Mary is an angry millennial underachiever living with her overbearing, kaftan-clad mother Cyntha. After a reckless encounter with her nervous neighbour Boo—and his unmistakably extraterrestrial anatomy—leaves her with an unwanted alien pregnancy, Mary turns to a medical system that refuses to take her seriously. As her symptoms escalate from humiliating to grotesque, Boo proves hopeless, both their mothers become increasingly involved and something distinctly inhuman continues to grow inside her. To survive, Mary must reclaim control of her body and finally take charge of her life.
Pairing deadpan New Zealand comedy with gloriously gooey body horror, Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant transforms the reproductive process into an outrageous story of bodily autonomy, dysfunctional families and intergalactic fluids.
