Mixing the best of The Ring and the Whispering Corridors series, and throwing in a cheeky nod to the clichés of East Asian horror, Idiot Girls and School Ghost: School Anniversary is a loving low-budget spoof that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It all starts with some grainy found footage of three high school girls spending a terrifying night in their school on its anniversary. The rules are simple: they have to play hide-and-seek with a ghost. If they manage to stay hidden until morning, they’ll get perfect SAT scores. If they’re caught, they’ll vanish without a trace, as if they never existed.Cut to the present, where a new trio of girls is feeling the pressure of upcoming exams. When Ji-yeon stumbles upon the cursed videotape, it unleashes a fresh wave of hauntings. She’s stuck dealing with the ghost’s creepy appearances until the next school anniversary. Her friends, tempted by the promise of perfect scores, end up watching the tape too. They’re soon joined by Min-joo, an amateur shaman who’s so obsessed with Japanese culture that she mostly speaks in hilariously broken Japanese. As the anniversary night looms closer, they must figure out how to survive the ghost’s game while navigating a maze of horror and hilarity.
