Our fantasy package this year is called “Pushing Boundaries”, a classic trait of that genre. In portal fantasy, an ordinary person pushes through the boundaries to another world, such as the protagonist of 3 Murs & Un Toit exploring the magical realm of her childhood toys.

In other stories, the extraordinary pushes into our world, like the vampires in Teething, or the mysterious Audio Guide that knows the secrets of the universe. Sometimes this can be an indication of a greater problem, like the traffic cone that upends the protagonist’s life in Cone. Sometimes it can instead help mitigate a problem, like the superpowers in Balloon though superpowers can also be an inconvenience in themselves, as seen in Archibald’s Syndrome. And of course, some people just remain oblivious to everything around their own little bubble, even if zombies are invading, as in The Little One.

Many of these films explore moral boundaries, which is also the main focus of Gold Is Eating People, a parable on the dangers of greed.

These films show the full range of the fantasy genre, from comedy to horror, the magical to the mundane. But they all live up to the promise of giving you a fantastic film festival in every sense
