We are happy to present heartful and hard-hitting action in the form of Kiel McNaughton’s The Legend of Baron To’a.
When entrepreneur Fritz returns to his hometown in the tough parts of Auckland to sell his family home, a precious heirloom – a pro-champion wrestling belt belonging to his late father, Baron To’a – is stolen by local gang leader Tahu. Fritz has to reconnect with his roots and learn the wrestling ways of the late great Baron to conquer Tahu, take back the priceless belt and in the process rediscover his family legacy.
Kiel McNaughton’s feature debut delivers adrenaline-fueled action and comedy for the whole family – or for 18 plus (some broken bones should be expected). Fritz, portrayed by Tongan actor Uli Latukefu, turns in a splendid performance together with his fellow Māori cast in this Kiwi blast that pays homage to the heyday of wrestling. The Legend of Baron To’a treats viewers to intense chases through backyards and exciting fights accompanied by a soundtrack as hard-hitting as the action.
The film is presented in collaboration with the New Zealand Film Commission.
