Oddities Weird Enough? Short Films – Online Screening

October 28 @ 17:00 - November 1 @ 23:59

- 4EURO

Life sure can be strange, right? You try and get through your everyday life with as little fuss as possible, and boom! Dead bodies everywhere, or everyone is wearing animal masks, or someone you love turns out to have been a broccoli all along. Now, I don’t want to spoil the amazing tale of Broccoli too much, but there is indeed a broccoli in a key part. And to continue on the subject of food; a man trying to go about his day, but there is the matter of the Spoon not leaving him alone…

A regular Viennese coffee shop gets a Carnival of Waiters who are neither who they seem, nor pulling off the waiter gig very well. In the same way Bob in And Then God Laughed isn’t really having a very good day at all, first the thing with his boss, then his neighbour. Not to mention the poor help desk guy in Washout, I bet a lot of people who’ve worked support have had the feeling of slowly losing their minds.

Did you know the human mind makes more than thirty thousand decisions a day? Just don’t let that thought drive you insane, watch a calming movie about the easy choice of snacks instead in Verdict 30001: The Cookies. Nothing going on whatsoever in Carrie’s Doing Great. She really is. Everything is fine. Just ignore the weirdos with the torches and horns and stuff. In The Silence of the River, life is but a dream. If only Juan’s dad would wake up.

Carrie’s doing just fine, thank you. She just needs another small loan from her parents to get the parts to finish programming the video game. If only the creepy dreams would stop. Through a dreamscape, Juan tells us of his father. Juan and his father live on the river, and Juan wants to be a storyteller when he grows up, just like his father. The Jungle rests during daylight, and awakens come night time. Juan’s father sleeps. And then he awakens.

Verdict 30,001: The Cookies // 2019 // Finland//  Comedy // 9 min 13 sec // Swedish Premiere

We make on average 35,000 conscious decisions each day. This man’s 30,001th one is the seemingly mundane choice of whether to buy a box of cookies or not. We get the rare chance to peek into the decision making of his brain, as different parts weigh the pros and cons. This seemingly simple choice turns out to be more complex than you might think.
