Moebius Redux is a documentary about the comic book artist Jean Giraud, aka Moebius. Giraud has for a long time been gruondbreaking within his trade, but he had close connections to the movie industry as well. During the sixties Giraud introduced the western hero Blueberry, that brought him international recognition. Since then Giraud has been working in the fantasy- and sci-figenre, and he has produced several comic albums. Among his work you find Arzach, Le Garage Hermétique de Jerry Cornelius and L’incal, works that all has helped evolve the art of comics. Moebius Redux presents Giraud both proffesionally and privately. With music by Karl Bartos and an aesthetic design that corelates well with Moebius’ art an atmosphere is created that lifts the experience to something more than a usual documentary. A part of the movie casts light on what Giraud has done for movies, for example the design for Alien, Willow and The Fifth Element. It’s hard to imagine what modern sci-fi would look like without him. The story about Moebius is far from over, he is still working on several projects. But a better summary than Moebius Redux of what his long career has meant so far is very hard to imagine. Elias Westerberg |
