Hell's Ground (Zibahkhana)

A Pakistani zombie movie? It doesn’t get more exotic than that, does it? Hell’s Ground could be tag lined “The Islamabad Morning Star Massacre”, with it’s heart warming homage to the classics of b-horror-movies such as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Zombie Flesh Eaters and Evil Dead.
The setup is classical teen horror: A group of fun loving, drug happy teens sets out on a car trip to get away from their boring life and family trouble, but of course ends up in worse trouble. And what kind of trouble? Well, the usual stuff. An infected river creates a horde of village zombies, a hooded maniac with a morning star big enough to slay a medium sized dinosaur and a creepy old guy played by Rehan who starred as Dracula in the Pakistani version of the Bram Stoker classic and who returns after 30 years of retirement.
Being the first film produced by the famous DVD-company Mondo Macabro, Hell’s Ground combines the classical zombie b-movie with a refreshing new and exotic setting (ever seen a zombie wear a jallaba before?). Instead of just copying it’s inspirational sources, it creates it’s own vision set in present Pakistan and presents a view of the Pakistani youth far from the cliches often seen in the main stream media.
