This is Lund International Fantastic Film Festival

Fantastic film is usually used as a collective term for film genres like science fiction, fantasy and horror. But Lund International Fantastic Film Festival does not set narrow limits for what can be screened at the festival. In short fantastic cinema is about imagination. The aim of the festival is to help stretch the limits of the imagination, and to reinforce the intrinsic value of imagination in films.

Fantastic cinema is popular among the moviegoers. Of the top twenty box office hits of all time, all but one are fantastic films, for example the film series The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter. But Lund International Fantastic Film Festival also screens films by daring and critically acclaimed directors like Dave McKean, Michael Winterbottom and Takashi Miike for instance.

Since the inception in 1995, close to 600 films from more than 30 countries have been screened at Lund International Fantastic Film Festival, both shorts and feature films. The majority of the films screened thereby also receive their Swedish premiere. At Lund International Fantastic Film Festival, modern classics like Face/Off, Donnie Darko, A Tale of Two Sisters and Serenity received their Swedish theatrical premiere.

Sometimes the festival focuses on different directors (Shinya Tsukamoto, Peter Jackson, Terry Gilliam), interesting countries (Hong Kong, Korea, Spain) or specific themes (Japanese Anime, the tales of Astrid Lindgren). Special focus is always though on the European continent, which contributes with at least 70% of the films of the festival, and at Lund International Fantastic Film Festival is accordingly member of two important networks for the promotion of European cinema: European Coordination of Film Festivals and European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation. Together with the latter, Lund International Fantastic Film Festival is hosting one of its several international competitive sections, the Méliès Competition.

Getting to Lund from abroad

When planning a visit to Lund, Sweden, it is important to have in mind that Sweden is separated from the European continent by the Baltic Sea to the east and south and by the strait Öresund to the west.

By air - Copenhagen Airport CPH / Kastrup - Malmö - (Lund)

Copenhagen Airport, CPH, at Kastrup, Denmark, is the closest large international airport, can be most conveniently reached by a frequent high-speed train (Öresundståget) running from Copenhagen Railway Station (Kobenhavn H) via Copenhagen Airport (CPH / Kastrup) to Malmö Central (railway) Station. The trip from Copenhagen Airport to Malmö Central Station will take approximately 30 minutes. Tickets can be purchased all the way through to Lund but a change of trains in Malmö is often necessary. Try to get a Öresundståg towards Helsingborg or Kristianstad, then you get directly to Lund without changing trains.

By air local airport Malmö MMX/Sturup - Lund

The local airport Malmö - Sturup, MMX, has frequent connections to and from Stockholm, London and Amsterdam, but only a few other regular international flights. There is a bus service from Sturup to Lund - flygbussarna. Busses depart about ten minutes after the arrival of planes from Stockholm (almost every hour). The bus stops in central Lund (at Lundagård and the main railway station). There is also a limousine service (desk at the airport check-in area) from Sturup , which will take you directly to your address in Lund. The Swedish taxi-market is free and though most companies have recommended prices for defined routes (such as Sturup - Lund), drivers have sadly been known to charge foreign visitors unreasonable fees. Taxis in Sweden can be pre-ordered or found at Taxi stops often found just outside stations, harbours etc., hailing them in the street sometimes works but it is not the normal routine. Taxis normally accept all major credit cards.

Travel from Malmö to Lund

Travel from Malmö to Lund may be partaken by taxi or local (purple) trains, Pågatåget - approximately 15 minutes. The local trains normally depart 4 times per hour during weekdays, somewhat less frequently in the evening and during weekends. Taxis in Sweden can be pre-ordered or found at Taxi stops often just outsider stations, harbours etc., hailing them in the street sometimes works but it is not the normal routine. The Swedish taxi-market has recently been made free-allowing drivers to set their own fees, which, unhappily, sometimes results in visitors from abroad paying outrageous prices. Settle a price with the driver before accepting his/her services, normally drivers are employed by a taxi company, which has established recommended prices for certain routes. Taxis normally accept all major credit cards.

Train - Copenhagen Central Railway Station (Kobenhavn H ) - to Lund

The Öresund trains run frequently over the bridge to Sweden from Copenhagen Station (Kobenhavn H) to Malmö Central Station will take approximately 40 minutes. Tickets can be purchased all the way through to Lund, but a change of trains in Malmö is often necessary. Try to get a Öresund train (Öresundståg) towards Helsingborg or Kristianstad, then you get directly to Lund without changing trains. If you need to change trains at Malmö C, then take a Pågatåg to Lund, the run about every 20 minutes at work hours, less frequent at night and weekends.

By train to Lund

Lund is located on the main railway from Malmö to Stockholm and Oslo. There are frequent connections to and from the continent. Travel time from Stockholm is about 4 hrs on the express "X2000" or 6-7 hrs on other trains, and there is a connection every hour. Swedenbooking, the general sales agent for SJ, Connex, Arlanda Express, Berlin Night Express, and many local train operators throughout Sweden and Norway, can be reached at tel +46 (0)498 203380 or fax to +46 (0)498 203390 or e-mail: info@swedenbooking.com

By car

The bridge between Copenhagen and Malmö (Öresundsbron) is open to motorists. Lund is conveniently reached from the main roads E6 and E22. There are also car and passenger ferry connections to southern Sweden from Germany Scandlines and TT-Line and Poland. There are also connections via Denmark from Germany and UK. You may also cross Öresund with the ferry over Helsinborg-Helsingör, approximately 30 minutes travel. It is recommended to make a reservation for your car on all ferry lines.
