Méliès d’Argent Attack The Block
Ready or not here they come, you can’t hide! This film absolutely pierces your heart with its surprising, fresh, funny and unpredictable story. It also manages to raise important questions with political pungency through an 80’s retro lense.
The jury was completely blown away by this colorful candybomb of fireworks filled with heart and humor.
It’s not just an attack on the block, it’s an attack on boredom, injustice, and prejudice. We cannot stop quoting this damn masterpiece.
It’s a global invasion of blackhairy wolf dog motherfuckers , innit? It has everything to do with drugs, violence in videogames and rap music. This is too much madness to fit into one text! 2011:s Silver Méliès goes to Attack the Block.
Honorable Mention: Inbred
Alex Chandon and his Inbred is the most violent movie we’ve seen, still it’s oone of the most hilarious and unrealistic stupid comedies we’ve seen coming out of Brittan in years. And thank you Alex for helping us build up the stereotype of British men and their dental problems. We love you.
KORTFILM: To Swallow A Toad
During the running time of 10 minutes of weird references to animator Bill Plymthon, post-Soviet, Jung, Van Gogh and the big black and important book, we, the jury, realized we’d swallow a vivid Latvian toad any day of the week. And now we know how. The 2011:s Silver Méliès for short subject goes to How to Swallow a Toad.
The Siren; International Award: The Woman
‘the international jury are delighted to present the Award to a film that is controversial without resorting to obvious shock tactics. Plus the way it asks the important question what is humanity. The Lucky winner is Mckee & The Woman’
The audience award will be announced tomorrow
